What is the EU Digital COVID Certification?
The EU Digital COVID Certificate consists of information about an individual’s vaccination, test, and/or recovery status in regards to COVID-19 in the form of a QR code. Individuals can choose to carry either a digital or paper-based certificate.
The green digital certificate is being rolled out to facilitate safe and free movement during the COVID-19 pandemic within the EU. The European Commission has set up the gateway through which certificate signatures can be exchanged among national directories to be verified across the EU.
Implementation decisions, including whether to bind the bearer’s identity to the credential with biometrics, will be up to each member state’s government, whether in the form of national wallet apps or integration into existing solutions, including commercial options.

National authorities like test centers and health authorities that are in charge of issuing the certificate (“Issuers”) are now scrambling to implement the scheme.
